Lumen Fidei Institute — Pro Deo et Patria
About us
Lumen Fidei Institute is an association of Catholic lay people engaged in cultural and educational matters. We are a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation and all monies raised will be use for the purpose of promoting the work of the Institute.
The following truths are at the heart of our work:
-
Marriage, the exclusive, life-long union of one man and one woman, is the foundation of a stable and flourishing society and is the greatest protector of children, born and unborn.
-
The separation of the procreative and unitive ends of the sexual act, which is intrinsic to the use of contraception, has acted as a major catalyst of the culture of death.
-
Parents are the primary educators of their children and the protection of this right is essential for building a new “culture of life”.
-
The solemn obligation of the local bishop is to pronounce and teach the sacred doctrine of the Church without fear and the duty of the laity is to encourage and support them in doing so.
-
There exists in our secular society a bias – fuelled by the mainstream media – against the Church this in turn leads to the development of anti-Christian attitudes. The only way to combat this development is to proclaim the truths of the Christian message without fear.
The Code of Canon Law (1983), 212 §3, states:
“According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, [the faithful] have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful, without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence toward their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.”
The Institute is an association dedicated to the commitment of Catholics in the public arena.
The initial objective of this association is to inform and teach regarding the moral and social doctrine of the Church and the principles of political action.
Lumen Fidei is a not-for-profit association for all people, groups or associations who wish to engage in social, political and cultural life. As a work of Catholic Action, Lumen Fidei has the vocation of encouraging the action of the laity, in order to help them to exercise their responsibilities according to the place they occupy in society.
Perfectly faithful to the Pope and the Church, Lumen Fidei adheres to the social teachings of the Catholic Church. This is achieved with the promotion of the culture of life, through family, parents, friends, school or university, company and world of work, and local communities.
Lumen Fidei aims to encourage the action of the laity in order to help them to exercise their responsibilities according to their place in society. This work will be achieved by the dissemination of information via a website, leaflets, adverts etc.
The Institute will also run regular conferences across Ireland encouraging the formation of local groups, these groups will in turn communicate the campaigns and ideas of the Institute to the local bishop, local clergy, parish groups etc.
