John Carlin writes about an important Pro Life prayer vigil which began on Ash Wednesday, 6th March 2019, and continues until Sunday 14th April 2019 – more Adorers are encouraged to sign up using the contact details at the end of this article.
“Yes” side knew how to sell a lie.
As we all know, abortion is a procedure that intentionally stops the heartbeat of one of our most vulnerable little brothers and sisters through an act of violence. People can try to justify it or to rationalise it as much as they like, but this is a stark realty and one that every Christian must stand up and challenge until it is defeated in the hearts and minds of all men and women, not only in this country but all over the world.
That’s our objective; to consign this atrocity to the history books and to make reparation for what has already gone by. Not that we are saints, rather because we are all sinners, in the Church for sinners.
To put this in context, I spoke to a few “Yes” voters the day after the abortion referendum, ironically, on top of Croagh Patrick, as we were preparing to ready ourselves for the descent the following morning. The sense I got was that these young ladies did not really understand or appreciate the effects or the significance of what they had just voted in. I got the sense that they really had been deceived into thinking that abortion is some form of human right that trumps even the right to life. To be fair to the “Yes” side, they really knew how to sell a lie.
And with others, it was more of an anti-God, anti-Church vote given the anger among a lot of our people in relation to scandals within the Church and the subsequent mishandling of same.
Whatever the reason, we are now faced with a situation where in this country, once a bastion of faith and love of God, a large majority voted to introduce abortion on demand. In my mind, to do such a thing requires the collective suppression of conscience on a scale never before witnessed or experienced. People knew at some level the consequences of their actions but decided to ignore them regardless. If people were honest with themselves, their consciences and their Spiritual instincts, they would know right from wrong as they do black from white. Granted, there was a very well financed media campaign in support of abortion, but in the final analysis we are all to some degree responsible for our own actions and decisions. Just because someone sticks their hand in the fire, does not mean I have to.
There is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered.
Since the vote, there has been a concerted effort by the establishment to silence all dissension or attempts to debate such “miniscule” issues as conscientious objection in the direct provision of what is now the Irish abortion industry. No-one or no qualms are tolerated in what can only be now described as a matter of fundamental faith for the “Liberal” agenda. Try and disagree with this agenda and see just how “liberal” it actually is! Totalitarianism is a much more appropriate description. No-one will be allowed to stand in the way of a complete victory for this mindset; or so they think.
Pope John Paul II said “there is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered. There is no Cross that Christ has not already borne for us and does not now bear with us”. The point is, Christ has already won this battle and there can be no doubt He is as we speak with us. I have no doubt Christ has a plan for our country and will not allow the enemy to crow out on his dung heap for much longer. Christ always check mates the enemy, Christ always brings good out of evil. Like the Easter pray says; O Felix Culpa!
As Christians, we have sought a tangible way to give a tangible expression of our faith. Christ went into the desert to pray for 40 Days and Nights, St Patrick spend 40 Days and Nights on Croagh Patrick, while many other holy men and women have completed similar initiatives elsewhere. Following this example, we are now underway with the third 40 Days and Nights Perpetual Adoration Prayer Crusade in the Benedictine Monastery, Silverstream, Stamullen, Co. Meath. Our principled response as Catholics is not to accommodate this attack on the most Precious gift from God, Life itself. Frankly abortion is an absurdity; and not to confront it is not an option.
Your hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will repair for the evils of the world
The most efficient way to do so is in Union in Prayer with Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary. Her reaction to the situation at the Wedding Feast of Cana is exactly what is required here and her advice to the servants could not be more appropriate “Do whatever He tells you”! We will be pleading with Our Lady to approach her Son on our behalf, to ask Him to intercede in the most powerful way He can; and let’s face it, if ever Ireland needed a Divine intervention and solution, it is now.
To pray with Our Lady while in Adoration; again, Pope John Paul II said, “Your hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will repair for the evils of the world and bring about peace on earth”.
The choice is stark, to protect the most fundamental of human rights, Life, or to allow our people, country and the world slide into an even darker existence. The stakes have never been higher. Through this vigil we wish to highlight the enduring truth that every individual has an active role to play in sustaining a society that values human life in all its forms.
